May was an extremely busy, creative and - at times - HOT month at our new base in the heart of the community of East Brighton!

We are extremely grateful to Richard Attenborough Charitable Trust for supporting us to stage a total of 4 events in the beautifully revamped venue The Skep at Moulsecoomb Place as part of the Brighton Fringe Festival. Each event programme was different, featuring a brilliant range of professional creatives alongside members of the community, including an evening of live music, an original play, spoken word and poetry and, finally, an evening of performance, discussion and creativity on the theme of Care and Culture.

We are now reflecting on the feedback we have had - both from audiences and contributors - and making plans for future events, building on the success of this month of activity as we are keen to sustain the enthusiasm that these events have generated.

Already, we have 2 more confirmed dates for Writer's Block poetry events on 15th July and 9th September and we strongly advise advance booking of tickets for these events as the last one was completely sold out. Book your tickets here.

The play 'Bad Indian' which was performed as part of our Fringe programme is now moving to London for 2 performances on the 3rd and 4th July so if you missed the performance in May (or would like to see the play again!) you can book tickets now from the Greenwich Theatre.

For us, one of the highlights of these events has been to showcase the skills and talent of our creative team as musicians, poets, writers, actors and makers, alongside members of the community who participate in our programmes. For example, Val Evans is a carer who has attended our monthly Carers O'Clock sessions for several years and she performed her poetry for the first time in her life to live audiences, sharing a stage with our patron Michael Attenborough CBE! Also, Voices From The Edges participants Jossie and Joe performed at our music event and really held their own in a lineup of experienced professionals. The impact of experiences like this cannot be under-estimated

So, May is over but we are now committed to creating more opportunities like this in future so watch this space and come and get involved at The Skep and see what all the fuss is about...
