Disability Awareness Training
Our approach to training is based in our own experience of delivering creative activity.
Our training is designed to be varied, interactive and challenging, creating a safe space for group working, learning and shared experience, drawing on the knowledge in the room.
Our Disability Awareness Training is specifically for organisations wishing to understand their obligations and improve their practice.
The training covers:
Attitudes
our understanding, personal experiences and exposure to portrayals of disability in the media, news coverage etc.
Language and communication
negative and positive terminology relating to disability awareness of the medical and social models.
The legal framework and requirements
the implications of the Equality Act 2010 and the requirement to make ‘reasonable adjustments’ to provide access for disabled people.
Potential barriers for disabled people
specific and general barriers for active and meaningful engagement in the arts and cultural sector and strategies for overcoming them.
Good practice
examples and guidance to develop this and identify areas for improvement at an individual, organisational and sector level.
Action planning
collaboratively creating some tangible, action-based outcomes based on collective agreed terms and aspirations.
“I was very impressed by the style and tone of the Culture Shift training on Disability Awareness. The session was informative, insightful but also fun. This was our first IRL team training since the pandemic and everyone was made to feel safe and comfortable to have conversations about disability in constructive and positive ways.”
Steve Moffitt, A New Direction

Creative Wellbeing at Work and INSET training
We were commissioned by East Sussex County Council in 2025 to deliver a Creative Health module
of the Wellbeing at Work Public Health programme and in November 2025 we piloted this activity
as an INSET session for 60 non-teaching staff at Willingdon School in Eastbourne.
Our training is delivered through active participation in creative activity on an individual and
collaborative basis, with a particular focus on creative journalling techniques, facilitated
conversation and reflective practice.
This training offer aims to support staff to:
Reflect and re-energise
providing opportunities to develop ways to support relationships and professional development and improve wellbeing.
Problem-solve
exploring creative, inclusive ways to overcome challenges and issues (dealing with challenging behaviour, negative energy, lack of resources etc).
Build skills
sharing experience, ideas and techniques for creative activity in the workplace both for individuals and teams.
“The training provided us with an opportunity to get together as a support staff body, in a fun
and relaxed environment, with activities that made us focus on our wellbeing, instead of always
putting everyone else first”
Willingdon School, HR Manager
A bespoke offer
This training is flexible to meet the specific needs and capacity of a host organisation.
