diversity + music + community = advocacy
Delta 7 is a seven-piece post-punk rock band which was formed as a
result of an Arts Connect music course in 2014. The band members have different personalities, talents and disabilities. But their shared love of performing, positive energy and mutual support allows them to create music that is infectious and inspiring, making Delta 7 an uplifting and powerful voice for everyone who feels a little outside of ‘mainstream’ society.
The band is based in Eastbourne, East Sussex and meets regularly to
rehearse and write original music, supported by professional musicians and a small army of loyal friends and fans. Delta 7 regularly perform live at gigs and music festivals and lead workshops for other disabled people who want to learn about song writing and musicianship.
During the current period of lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the members of Delta 7 are exploring ways of keeping connected through weekly facilitated online meetings and rehearsals, writing a song together about 'Isolation'.
The story of Delta 7 has been documented in 2 award-winning films; We Rise was shown at Picturehouse Cinemas across the UK in 2016. Followed by full-length documentary DELTA 7EVEN released in 2019, this feature follows the band over a period of one year during which they overcome the tragic news that Tom Salway, their band supporter and friend, has taken his own life. "A celebration of neuro-diversity and inclusion" DELTA 7EVEN reveals the individual members of the band individually processing the raw emotion of dealing with Tom's passing, as well as showing how they go on to turn this tragedy into united strength, self-belief and passion. DELTA 7EVEN demonstrates the healing power of creativity and a refusal to live a life attached to stereotypes. The band are very excited about the whole world seeing this new film with global release on VICE TV on 29th April 2020. You can see a 20 minute version of the film HERE

"Delta 7 create a brilliantly atmospheric sound that reminds me of post-punk band, The Fall. Their message reminds us all of the
value of music as a tool of empowerment. We’re proud and
honoured to support the band”
