Our BOBS Skills programme continues to change and grow, across education and in the community!

In this academic year, we have already returned to Hailsham Academy to deliver a BOBS Skills course to a group of Year 10 students and we have plans to work in more Sussex schools before the end of the Summer term.

The data evidencing the impact of our BOBS SKILLS programme has been incredible.  Notably, 60% of participating pupil premium students achieved 5s or above in their GCSE English and Maths, compared to only 8% of students who did not participate in the programme.

We have also recently rolled out an offer to provide our BOBS Skills programme for SEND schools across Sussex, with a focus on creative careers. In March, we delivered this offer to every year group at The Lindfield School, providing just under 100 students with opportunities to engage with members of our creative team, including actors, musicians and dancers. With only 5% of learning disabled adults in paid employment, we know that opportunities for meaningful engagement with professionals and employers to discover more about different career paths is vital for those still in education.

In the community, we have been working with ESTAR (the East Sussex Employment and Skills Team) to develop a pilot version of BOBS Skills (called BOBS Kickstart) which we will be delivering in partnership with Sussex charity, Furniture Now, which has 3 shops in Hailsham, Eastbourne and Lewes.  This project will focus on working with people who are long term unemployed and aims to support them to develop the skills and confidence they need to progress into employment, including a volunteer work placement with Furniture Now to gain valuable practical experience and an all-important reference to support their job applications.

The first series of sessions will be taking place in Hailsham in May and future sessions will be happening in the other Furniture Now shops, providing uniquely creative training experiences for unemployed people to take steps towards work opportunities.  Spaces are limited so book now!
