The 2nd April is Autism Awareness Day which seems like a great day to be talking

about Being Our Best Selves (BOBS)!

Laura and Dominic, 2 members of our BOBS Brains group which helps to design

and deliver our BOBS in Sussex programme, went to the Towner Gallery

recently with Culture Shift CEO Julia Roberts to be part of an event called Unity In

Diversity, organized by the East Sussex Autism Partnership Board.

There was a lot of interesting information, presentations and performances at the

event, including many films (such as 'We Rise' by our very own Delta

7! watch it on our Delta 7 page here) and it gave us lots to think and talk about.

The event also provided different ways to think about our and others wellbeing, which is exactly what BOBS is all about.

We know just how important BOBS in Sussex has become to our participants. It has helped them develop confidence, make friends and visit new places, all through a range of free creative activities. For some it is a social outlet and others a highlight of their month. Our day service partners tell us how difficult it currently is for them to find enriching activity for their groups, with funding being cut, leading to reduced opening hours and access to transport to being stopped.

There are Big BOBS Days happening all over Sussex this year and the most recent one happened in Crowborough with over 50 learning disabled adults and those who

care for them enjoying a day of creative activity together with our BOBS team. On theme for the start of spring, we made our own paper flowers as well as Scarecrows using donated offcuts of fabrics.

More Big BOBS Day events are coming up soon – in Horsham on 13th May and

Hastings on 8th July. These events are fully funded with support from National
