SPACE TO CREATE - online
Children + creativity + CONNECTIONS = wellbeing
SPACE TO CREATE is one of our creative wellbeing programmes to help primary school aged children manage the stresses and challenges they face during everyday life. Led by creative practitioners experienced in supporting vulnerable children and young people, programmes normally run after school for 8-10 weeks.
During the COVID-19 lockdown with the closure of schools affecting many children, our team of artists have pulled together to deliver content online, and we are now sharing this outside of our groups. We have created a series of videos available on YouTube, with an accompanying resource pack for each.
We focus on creating a safe and creative space where children can build self esteem and confidence. Activities range from arts and crafts to music and drama.
Each 30 minute programme includes:
A Magic Make – an artist led making activity
A Drawing Date – a short guided drawing activity
An Awesome Artist – a short intro to an inspiring artist and a suggested activity to follow up
Mind and Body – short yoga, mindfulness and breathing exercises
Artists Janey Moffatt & Yair Katz are the hosts, joined by Ed Boxall, Rebecca Child, Anna Atkinson and Riz Maslen. Some are visual artists, others musicians, and amongst them some great exponents of yoga and mindfulness.
Janey shows us how to make an Arperilla; a folk art tradition originating from Chile, which depicts a scene from everyday life that you treasure.
