SPACE TO CREATE in School

Children + creativity + CONNECTIONS = wellbeing

SPACE TO CREATE in school is our primary age creative wellbeing programme, designed to support children develop in confidence and self esteem and manage the stresses and challenges they face during everyday life. Led by two creative practitioners experienced in therapeutic practice and supporting vulnerable children, programmes normally run after school for 8-10 weeks.

Activities range from arts and crafts to music and drama. Where possible we use outdoor space as well for our activities. Children complete Discover Arts Award as part of the programme.

We are currently funded through BBC Children in Need to work in Hastings and Bexhill.

We were delighted to feature on BBC Children in Need’s appeal on TV in November 2021 when drummer Mark Richardson from Skunk Anansie came to take a look at our programme at All Saints Primary in Sidley.

SPACE TO CREATE out of school

We try where possible to build on the in-school programmes with holiday and half term activities. This has included half term sessions in local cultural venues for children and parents/carers to attend together as well as holiday clubs, now supported as part of the Holiday and Food programme. Since Easter 2021 we have been delivering holiday activity in Sidley and Hollington connected to our term time programmes.

Space To Create team

None of this would be possible without a great team of artists who make this happen. They include Anna Atkinson, Ed Boxall, Rebecca Child, Mark Daniels, Yair Katz, Janey Moffatt and now Naomi Burrell, Rebecca Fifield, Annie Goliath and Peter Quinnell who have joined our holiday programme team.

Space To Create Online

We have also created online content for children which offered vital support for families and schools throughout the COVID-19 lockdown. If you are looking for some creative inspiration and activities designed with wellbeing in mind, here are a series of 30-minute videos and accompanying activity sheets to complete at home. Each contains craft, art inspiration, music and mindful practices suitable for under 12's.
