Holiday Activities

Nutrition + exercise + confidence = Healthy LIFE

Holiday Activities and Food (HAF)

School holidays can be pressure points for some families because of increased costs (such as food and childcare) and reduced incomes. For some that can lead to children and young people being:

  • less likely to access organised out-of-school activities

  • more likely to experience ‘unhealthy holidays’ in terms of nutrition and physical health

  • more likely to experience social isolation

The government launched the Holiday Activities and Food programme as a response to this issue and we were delighted to run two pilot programmes at Easter and a further 13 clubs this summer in St Leonards, Sidley (Bexhill) and Eastbourne.

We delivered a whole range of activity for 5-16 year olds including street art, arts and crafts, music, poetry and football, power hooping, pilloxing and creative tech in schools and community spaces, teaming up with Heart of Sidley to co produce the Sidley Summer of Fun. The programmes offered lunch and snacks alongside creative play, craft fun and information about nutrition and healthy eating and a welcome opportunity to build on our term time after school wellbeing programmes, Space to Create and Telling Your Story.

|With thanks to all of the team who helped make these summer sessions happen; Zoe Ward FitnFabFamilies, Zo Daniels, Anna Atkinson, Yair Katz, Sean, Fiona and James at Tech Resort, Aaron at Defiant Sports, Tom Goulden, John Khan, Ed Boxall, Mark Daniels, Jake Woods, Tom Clarkson, Rebecca Fifield, Siddy Bennett, Naomi Burrell, Annie Goliath, Eric and Jenny, our food providers; James from Hands of Hope, Louise at Sizzlers, Mark from the Cavendish Bakery and our venues; Robsack Wood Primary Academy, All Saints, Sidley Primary School, Cavendish Primary, Sidley Community Centre and Freedom Church.

Thank you for providing and supporting these wonderful, creative, empowering and nourishing activities!

"Can we come everyday?

"I feel more confident to express myself"

“Angel had great fun and lots of care and interaction from staff. She spoke out for the first time in an interview and now loves vegi burgers”

“Absolutely delighted with the programme. My son loved it! I wouldn’t have been able to afford clubs during the holidays, so I am grateful for this programme.”
