Good Food + A space to Create + confidence = positivity

Holiday Activities and Food (HAF)

We have been a part of the national Holiday and Food Programme (HAF) since the pilot. This programme aims to reduce the effects of food and social deprivation by offering children and young people eligible for free school meals access to food and quality activity over the holidays.

“Absolutely delighted with the programme. My son loved it! I wouldn’t

have been able to afford clubs during the holidays, so I am grateful for this programme.” [parent of participant]

Since the pilot we have delivered holiday clubs during the Easter, Summer and Winters breaks across East Sussex to children and young people of Primary and Secondary school age including in partnership with Heart of Sidley and for young carers alongside Care for the Carers.

Our holiday clubs always include some physical activity, games and creative activities including theatre making, painting, drawing, making, printing and spray painting.

HAF has been an opportunity to extend our Space to Create programme and the relationships we have with schools and communities, connecting with children, young people and their families during the holidays.

Our holiday clubs offer college and university students work experience and the opportunity to learn from our team of coordinators who manage all the food and logistics and the creative practitioners who deliver arts based activities.

During the 2024 Summer holidays our holiday clubs had attendances of 313 children and young people. Sessions were delivered in Sidley alongside

Heart of Sidley at All Saints CofE Primary School, at Chantry Community Primary School in Bexhill, in Polegate for young carers alongside Care for the Carers and in Lewes we delivered a spray painting workshop for teens.

"My daughter was very nervous going and didn't want to get out the car but when we picked her up she hasn't stopped talking about it, showing us what she had done and explaining how to spray paint with different techniques. She thoroughly enjoyed the experience." [parent]
