Time Travel in Sussex
experience + Community + Support = Confidence
Time Travel in Sussex is a development of our successful
Get Into Trains pilot project which was delivered in 2019/2020.
Working alongside staff and volunteers from heritage venues and colleagues from Southeast Communities Rail Partnership,Time Travel In Sussex creates opportunities for learning disabled adults and their carers to explore a range of museums in East and West Sussex. The venues are located near train stations, encouraging people to gain confidence and experience of travelling by train and learning about the importance of transport on our local history.
Our heritage partners are:
One of the outcomes from this project was to produce a co-designed resource to be used by our heritage partners, aimed at increasing engagement of learning disabled people.
The first phase of this project focused on 'Explore and Co-design' sessions at each venue. This involved the project delivery team, the Community 21 design team from the University of Brighton and colleagues from Southeast Communities Rail Partnership working with learning disabled volunteers in an inclusive co-design process.
Disability Awareness Training was delivered at each heritage venue and we hosted open day events at each venue where we tested our co-designed resources with members of the wider learning disabled community.
Project resources include:
-
Travel guides for each venue including directions from the local train station to the venue and top tips for travelling by train
-
A Time Travel passport and a bookmark size prompt sheet encouraging people to engage with the exhibits in different ways
-
A bespoke box and passport stamp for each venue
-
Maps and stickers for each venue
