WELLBEING for young people

Conversation + creativity + CONNECTION = wellbeing

This year sees our work with young people on wellbeing come together under the banner of Discovery College, working in partnership with Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and CAMHS in East Sussex.

Discovery College is a place for young people in East Sussex to have new experiences and learn more about emotional wellbeing and particular mental health challenges. Young people are involved throughout the design and delivery of programmes which offer a range of activities delivered in community spaces across East Sussex.

Culture Shift are working with Discovery College to expand the range of arts courses on offer. We have offered courses in music and song writing, creative tech, photography, street art, creative writing and making kinetic art (automata).

Courses normally run for 8 weeks and are open to any young person whom self identifies as needing support. All courses are FREE and the summer programme can be accessed on the Discovery College Website.

The website was co-designed with young people working with Ross Clifford at Junction44 Design and Chloe Taylor from Little Blue House Web. We think it's a beautiful website, packed with resources that we hope can help lots of young people successfully manage their mental health through any challenging times.

TELLING YOUR STORY offers young people in secondary schools a safe and non-judgemental space to let off steam, be creative, explore new ways to express themselves and what matters to them and expand their friendship groups. These 8-10 week programmes now sit within the Discovery College. We work closely with schools to identify young people that would benefit from participation. Sessions are led by artists working, where possible, with a peer mentor. These programmes are supported by BBC Children in Need.
