Evaluation work with the Charleston Trust

Culture Shift is excited to be working with the Charleston Trust to evaluate a significant, long term project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The project is improving visitor facilities at Charleston, creating new dedicated learning spaces to enrich the experience of visiting the house, and removing some of the barriers to access.

The project is also enabling Charleston to catalogue, photograph and publish online an important collection of over 8,000 works on paper and painted studies by Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant which were recently donated to the Charleston Trust by their daughter, Angelica Garnett.

This ‘Angelica Garnett Gift’ is providing a focus for training, volunteering and learning activities. An exhibition will be held in Charleston’s new galleries and the collection will be available for ongoing displays and interpretation, for example through the Charleston Attic blog.

The project is also enabling Charleston to develop its public programme, encouraging a wider audience to engage more deeply with Charleston’s heritage through a broad range of activities including training, volunteering, practical workshops, short courses, walks, talks and a formal education programme for schools.
