SORTED? – offer to Special Schools

16 April 2015

An opportunity to experience and build confidence in creative, open-ended play and learning exploration.

SORTED? is an adaptable, inclusive, experiential show which carries a simple story, based around sensory play. It is led by Octopus Inc, a company of artists specializing in immersive environments for children including those with additional needs.

SORTED? focuses on individual play and stimulates the imagination through a world of cardboard boxes.

‘totally captivating and liberating’

‘very creative, very magical and a little bit emotional’

Imagine the possibilities of a cardboard box.  What might it be? A treasure chest?  A place to hide?  A block to stack, measure and build with? What might you find inside?

Building on the success of presentations for families in theatres and local venues in 2013, SORTED? has been adapted to meet the needs of children with additional needs and their teachers, families and carers. It is now available as an experiential performance and support package for special schools, offering the opportunity to transform your school hall into a magical world of child-led possibilities adapted to the needs and abilities of your pupils and staff.

Each booking of SORTED? includes:

  • Exploration of an intriguing world of boxes brought to life by three artists, with music, light, texture and materials
  • Up to an hour in this immersive, creative and safe-play space for children and young people with additional needs (up to 16 including people per session including carers.  This experience can be run twice per booking)
  • Opportunity for staff development through reflective discussion with Octopus Inc regarding the theory and creative approaches behind SORTED? with opportunities to extend and develop

The SORTED? package provides opportunities for staff and parents to share meaningful creative experiences with children and develops confidence in using inexpensive every-day objects to create stimulating learning environments.

Bookings can be made for Autumn term 2015, subject to availability.  The package also comes with a pre-show SORTED? box with resources and prompts to stimulate ideas, and a plan of the show in preparation for Octopus Inc and the rest of the SORTED? experience.
