Inspiring Talent event: June 15, St Leonards on Sea

Culture Shift teamed up again this year with Talent Match South East and the Employer and Skills Network to deliver an employer engagement event, built around our Creative Café model.

The event took place in the Azur Marina Pavilion in St Leonards in a bright airy space by the beach.

Called Inspiring Talent, the event was aimed at 18-24 year olds who have been out of work for a year or more. Young people were referred to the event through the Jobs Centre, Dv8 Sussex, APM as well as through Talent Match.

The event gave young people a chance to meet local employers, understand more about the variety of roles available in any one company or sector, and develop their confidence and skills in talking to employers.

We were delighted to have employer representatives from Freedom Leisure, Marshall Tufflex, Orbit housing and HOME (Helen Owen Marketing).

Reflecting on the best things about the event, almost all the young people mentioned the opportunity to talk to employers about their job roles, along with valuing the informality and friendliness, and the cahnce to find out about opportunities.

The best thing was being offered up a variety of new options and career paths from different sectors and employers.

We loved seeing everybody getting involved. There was a good atmosphere, everything was thoroughly explained.

Being unemployed for a long time can seriously impact someone’s confidence and self-esteem. This event demonstrated that the chance to get together and meet employers helps raise morale and feel connected.
