Student film screened as part of town’s Remembrance Day activities

24 November 2011

Last Letters Home is a beautiful and poignant short film made by students at William Parker Sports College in Hastings based on imagined letters home from young men in the first world war. The film is being screened in Priory Meadow Shopping Centre throughout Remembrance Day. The starting point for this project was the two war memorials sited on the school grounds that list the names of the young men from the school that lost their lives in both world wars. Year 8 History students researched the names and lives of these men, their material was then incorporated into a play, Blood Run, written by English students in Year 10. Last Letters Home takes part of this script and turns it into a short film based on the simple but moving format of the letter home.

Students worked with local historian Geoff Bridges and theatre director Grant Watson from Pursued By a Bear productions. The making of the film was supported by Screen South.
