Work with us > Early years

We know that very young children benefit from creative approaches in their development. Our work often involves boosting the confidence and skills of early years practitioners to take risks and allow learning and play to be more open-ended. Drawing on the expertise of a variety of artists, we seek ways to develop an environment and activities that support children’s creativity and link to the six goals of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum through projects, training and research.

We support increased access to quality arts and cultural experiences for young children and their families working with venues like The Towner Gallery, Eastbourne and Chichester Festival Theatre. We also programme participatory events, like Encounter Culture, in early years settings and schools to ensure they’re truly accessible.

We have produced research findings and recommendations for the development of the arts and cultural offer for under 7s in Surrey that can be found here.

It was a good experience to attend practical sessions; I am a manager and lead practitioner so courses are usually less fun and less active!

Early years practitioner, West Sussex

It is good to see at first hand the fruits of the partnerships at the Lancing Nursery where both children and practitioners have clearly thrown themselves in with enormous enthusiasm and gusto. Learning and growing up is about much more than just what comes out of a text book and the use of imaginative art and play clearly stretches and encourages the children to engage and socialise fully.
