Bridge the Gap at Hailsham Community College

Chandlers Hailsham engaged students from Hailsham Community College to launch their Motability Scheme, which enables disabled people and their carers to lease a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair, using their Government funded mobility allowance.  Working with Steve Nock from SCS Marketing, students investigated ways of promoting the scheme, including a pop-up event at Sainsburys Hastings.

Who was involved

  • Year 10 and 12 business students from Hailsham Community College, along with their teachers
  • Chandlers Hailsham BMW
  • Steve Nock, SCS Marketing

Enquiry

This project is part of Bridge the Gap which examines the question: How can a three-way partnership between creative professionals, secondary school students and real-world clients provide quality work-experience for students and meet the needs of business clients?

Outcomes

Students learned about marketing, promotion and market research, working directly with a marketing expert.  They developed skills in presenting and communicating ideas to the public. They grasped the importance of research, schedules and campaign continuity, and worked well together as a team.

They developed their confidence and have a sense of achievement, as a result of running a successful marketing campaign.

We’ve gained an understanding of how to approach potential customers.  It has given us a chance to build our skills talking and interacting with the public.

Student

It gave us a chance to use our own ideas and to get out and about more, it also gave us a chance to see how things work in the real world.

Student

We all got along as a group and hopefully we’ll get along in the future.
